Get to Know Our Team: Marvin Yu

Marvin S. Yu comes to the SBDC as a Business Consultant within the Technology Commercialization Center of Excellence (TC COE) brought to the SBDC through funding from the CARES Act of 2020.  The TC COE will be focusing on providing business counseling and services to innovation and technology-based small businesses.  These startups have challenges and need quite distinct from Main Street businesses such as larger capital needs, longer runway to revenues, significant R&D activities, and highly specialized workforces.  Marvin augments the current roster of SBDC business consultants by bringing business and innovation-based entrepreneurial experience to serve the needs of these companies.

His educational background includes formal training in organic chemistry with a bachelor’s degree from MIT and a doctorate from Emory University followed by a postdoctoral stint at the University of Pittsburgh.  After eight years in Pharma, Marvin then joined Fluorous Technologies, Inc in Pittsburgh directing R&D and commercialization of novel chemical reagents and processes before developing a high-throughput assay platform as CEO & Co-Founder of MS2 Array.  He has been a PI or Co-PI on seven SBIR/STTR grants and is an inventor on five granted US patents.
